Hola, my name is Shannon Pierce and I was lucky enough to be a part of the May 2010 mission team! I feel so blessed to have been part of such a wonderful, humble, inspiring group of people. I became involved in the Mission of the Healing Eyes through Megan Conahan, the daughter of the founders: Jim and Molly. Megan and I met while studying abroad in Spain and formed an immediate friendship. I am so grateful to have met Megan because we share so many of the same visions and dreams! Throug...

When trying to think of one inspiring story from this past mission, it's pretty difficult due to the fact that each day was filled with so much joy! I LOVED seeing the gifts each person on the team had to offer. One instance that comes to mind was when we decided to give away the donated shoes that Jeff brought on the trip. One 90 year old man received his first pair of tennis shoes. Prior to his cataract surgery, he was so blind that he had to feel the sh...

I have been a part of the Mission of Healing Eyes since the very beginning and have seen the paths unfold in ways that not even puzzle pieces could fit together so perfectly. This was my first Mission of Healing Eyes, and I am so thankful I was able to be a part of it! So many things stand out about the week, but if I had to choose two, they would be the following:

First, as one of the "older generation", I was in AWE of the young volunteers. That so many young people would give of their time to so lovingly and generously help people they don't even know was truly beautiful! They were polite, caring, sensitive, and intelligent. They were an ins...

May Mission 2010

The Mission of Healing Eyes this past May was truly an amazing experience. I feel blessed to have met all the great people associated with this mission. I feel that my life was influenced in so many great ways by all of the people involved with the mission and also all of the wonderful people of Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo. For me, the most memorable experience occurred on the last day of the mission, when each of the 46 patients who received cataract surgery and their families returned for post-o...

Full of Thanks

The May 2010 Healing Eyes Mission was the first one I had the pleasure of being apart of and I am so thankful for it.  I loved the group I got to go with and they made it such an enjoyable experience, but I must say, it is the people of Ixtapa that really made this trip worth while.  The majority of people have the same basic lifestyle: working all day to feed themselves and their families and receiving probably less than we do in an hour, in an entire week.  These stories are ...
